Where floor coatings are commonly used

Floor coatings are often used on garage floors, basement floors, workshop areas, storage rooms, stairs, balconies and terraces. Depending on the product, they can also be suitable for screed, cement-based surfaces and selected tiled or sealed mineral floors. The right choice depends less on colour and more on traffic, moisture exposure and how much mechanical load the surface needs to handle.

Floor paint, epoxy floor coating and sealers

Floor paint is usually the practical option for lighter renovation work and for refreshing usable surfaces with a protective coloured finish. Epoxy floor coating is the better fit when the surface is exposed to higher abrasion, tyre traffic, workshop use or stronger cleaning demand. Clear floor sealers are useful when the look of the substrate should stay visible while the surface still needs extra protection and easier maintenance.

What matters before coating the floor

A floor coating performs best on a clean, stable and properly prepared surface. Dust, grease, weak old layers and high absorbency can reduce adhesion, which is why primers, repair steps and the right topcoat system matter. If the floor is in a garage, basement or workshop, it also helps to think about slip resistance, cleaning routine and whether the coating should mainly protect, seal or fully cover the substrate.
